Biography
Enka Komariah earned a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts, specialising in Printmaking, from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI), Yogyakarta. His artistic practice takes place in transforming various mediums and imaginative narratives. Enka often plays with various satirical and ironic symbols, as well as playing with the blurry boundaries between taboos and norms rooted in society. The distinctive character in Enka’s work is his interest in cultivating his own identity based on agrarian Javanese tradition and juxtaposing it with contradictory popular cultural images.
Enka’s deep interest in Serat Centhini has led him to present his work on the exploration of the cahracter Cebolang at Kedai kebun Forum in 2017. He reinterpret the tales of Cebolang into a poster-sized paper with black-and-white ink. In 2019, he later participated in the literature and visual exhibition of Gambar Babad Diponegoro at Jogja Gallery in collaboration with Paguyuban Trah Diponegoro (Patrapadi) along with 50 other artists.
Enka has awarded Young; Artist Award (YAA) as a representative from Yogyakarta with his work, “Juxtapose #1” in 2019. He also joined in art collectives, such as Barasub (Comic) and Gegerboyo (Murals).
