Biography
Evi Pangestu is a painter who investigates rebellion and control within the parameter of convention. She is known for her neon-yellow square canvases, manipulating fundamental building blocks: canvas, paint and support to challenge the painting conventions, resulting in works that are minimal in form but maximal in visual impact. Evi is currently based between Oakland, Jakarta, and London.
In 2011, she started her education at the Fine Arts Department, specialising in Painting, from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI), Yogyakarta. She then earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from the Birmingham School of Art and later graduated with a Master of Arts in Painting from the Royal College of Art, London in 2019.
She has had solo shows such as Codes of Compromise, D Gallerie, Jakarta, Indonesia (2022); Dalam Sangkar, Galeri Ruang Dini, Bandung, Indonesia (2021).
