Biography

Suvi Wahyudianto is a young artist from Madura, currently pursuing a Masters in Fine Arts at the Bandung Institute of Technology. In 2018, he was awarded the UOB Panting of the Year 2018 at the national (Indonesia) and international (Southeast Asia) level for his work entitled "Angs't", a mixed media work that articulates the concept of empathy in responding to personal experiences and collective memories about social conflict. And in 2021 Suvi won the ArtJog MMXXI Young Artist Award for his work entitled "Telepresance After 20th".  Suvi's artistic practice includes exploring visual language through a poetic approach to broaden possible interpretations of tragic events related to past and present socio-cultural tensions, as well as analyzing issues related to identity politics. Through participatory textual and historical studies, as well as the elaboration of an autoethnographic approach into the realm of fine arts, Suvi focuses on creating works that seek to uncover new narratives as a counterpoint to mainstream narratives, in his efforts to deconstruct the discourse of violent conflict that has been revolving in society. as well as encouraging the idea of reconciliation and increasing empathic awareness after the conflict.
